Photographing events is about paying attention
People often think event photography is about coverage. Being everywhere. Capturing everything.
It’s not.
It’s about paying attention to the right things.
I’ve photographed conferences, launches, performances, corporate events and small gatherings where the most important moment wasn’t on the run sheet. It was off to the side. A glance. A reaction. Someone listening instead of speaking.

Those moments are easy to miss if you’re just firing away.
When I photograph events in Melbourne, I’m not trying to manufacture energy or force “vibes”. I’m looking for what’s already there. The way people actually move through a room. Who leans in when someone talks. Who relaxes once they forget the camera is there.
That’s usually when the good stuff happens.

Good event photography should feel honest when you look back on it. It should remind you what it was like to be there, not what it was meant to look like on paper. The best images tend to come from patience, observation and knowing when not to shoot as much as when to press the shutter.
If you’re hosting an event, you’ve already put a lot of thought into why people are gathering in the first place. My job is to honour that, quietly and without getting in the way, while making sure you walk away with photographs that actually mean something later.
If that sounds like the kind of approach you’re after, I’d be happy to talk.
